Antenatal Services

Overview of Vital Care Connect’s Antenatal Services

Antenatal care (ANC) is a core component of Vital Care Connect’s Maternal and Child Health program. The organization provides comprehensive ANC services to pregnant women in underserved and remote communities to monitor maternal and fetal health, identify risks early, and provide essential health education for safe pregnancy and delivery.

Core Objectives

The antenatal program aims to:

  • Detect and manage pregnancy-related risks such as pre-eclampsia, anemia, and gestational diabetes.

  • Promote healthy behaviors through education on nutrition, hygiene, and self-care.

  • Support birth preparedness by helping families recognize danger signs and plan for safe delivery.

  • Reduce maternal and neonatal mortality through consistent, informed care.

Key Services Provided

Vital Care Connect’s ANC services include:

  • Regular health check-ups, including blood pressure monitoring, anemia screening, fetal growth assessment, and provision of iron and folic acid supplements.

  • Health education and counseling on nutrition, hygiene, danger signs, and the importance of skilled facility-based delivery.

  • Disease prevention and treatment, including HIV testing and PMTCT services, malaria prevention (IPTp), and tetanus vaccination.

Impact

Consistent antenatal care improves maternal and fetal health outcomes, empowers women with knowledge, and prevents complications that could otherwise lead to avoidable loss of life.

Overview of Vital Care Connect’s Postnatal Services

Postnatal care is a critical part of Vital Care Connect’s Maternal and Child Health program, focusing on the first six weeks after childbirth the most vulnerable period for mothers and newborns. The program supports recovery, detects complications early, and promotes newborn survival.

Primary Goals

Postnatal services aim to:

  • Prevent and manage postpartum complications such as hemorrhage, infection, and eclampsia.

  • Ensure newborn health and survival through early and exclusive breastfeeding.

  • Support maternal physical and emotional recovery.

  • Empower families with knowledge on newborn care, nutrition, hygiene, and family planning.

Impact

By focusing on this high-risk period, Vital Care Connect reduces maternal and neonatal deaths, supports faster maternal recovery, and gives newborns a healthier start in life.

The Antenatal and Postnatal (ANC/PNC) Tracker

The ANC/PNC Tracker is a key tool used by CHWs to monitor pregnant and postpartum women, ensuring continuity of care from early pregnancy through six weeks after delivery.

Purpose

The tracker helps to:

  • Ensure no woman is missed in the community.

  • Schedule and confirm ANC visits and postnatal follow-ups.

  • Monitor health status and danger signs.

  • Generate data for program improvement and decision-making.

Value

The tracker strengthens accountability, improves follow-up, and ensures timely, life-saving care across the maternal and newborn health journey.
